Criminal Records Bureau checks

The purpose of disclosures

Disclosures are an important tool in aiding safer recruitment practices and patient safety. The Department of Health recommends that all posts with access to children or vulnerable adults are checked before an appointment is confirmed.

About our service

We are registered with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) as an umbrella body to sign disclosure applications on behalf of our members. If you wish to use our service, there will be an initial registration fee of £50. For this you will be provided with:

Once you have signed an umbrella body agreement and returned this to us along with the set up fee you will then be able to start submitting CRB application forms to us.

Each disclosure application form comes with a guide to help applicants. This booklet contact step-by-step information on how to fill in the application.

We charge a small fee of £8 per individual disclosure application received for volunteers and £44 for paid staff. This charge is non-refundable and payment must accompany the application.

About the CRB

The CRB is an Executive Agency of the Home Office, which provides wider access to criminal record information through its Disclosure service. This service enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involve children or vulnerable adults.

The CRB was established under Part V of the Police Act 1997 and was launched in March 2002.
